The Blinders - Gotta Get Through (Track Review)

So I’ve been following The Blinders for just over a year now, I think, and I still remember hearing “Murder At The Ballet” for the first time and instantly being wowed, this was a band with little to no music out there producing post-punk that was better than 99% of what was out there, I was majorly stunned and I was to keep a watchful eye out for future music and news around the band. Come November 2017 I finally got my chance to see them live when I ventured over to Rock City, Nottingham to see The Charlatans. They blew me away, what a live band they really are, tracks such as “Ramona Flowers”, “ICB Blues” & “Brave New World” sounded loud, brash and polished just as they do on tape.

As they started releasing those cool little teasers on Twitter that always showed a date with ear shatteringly loud static at the end I was kind of hoping for a new album but obviously was not disappointed to find out it was a single, after it all I have already heard “Gotta Get Through” live twice and both times it was the highlight of the set. Even my Dad was earnestly searching for the song but to no avail.

The song is straight out, unequivocally, fire! Straight from the belly of a dragon. It’s hard to put into words how good The Blinders really are but I feel that this song sums them up perfectly. There’s a filthy bassline running through the undergrowth of the track, strumming away with eeriness. There’s intense drumming and of course the unmistakable vocals from the frontman. It’s heavy, political and it’s a perfect representation of everything punk should be and everything we want it to be.

So if you aren’t a fan of The Blinders yet then I have nothing to say to you because you’re missing out on some of the best punk since the 80’s.
