Congratulations! You've stumbled across the only review that isn't going to refer to the bands age or state "how young they are" because they deserve to be judged among their peers are much older and MUCH less talented. Also, since when did being a teenager not become normal for releasing your debut album? That was literally the essence of britpop! Rant over. Anywaaaaay...
This 3-piece from Halifax are impossible to nail down to any one genre. Why? Because they have lengthy prog-rock infused tracks like "Liminal Spaces" and its counter part "The sound of..." and the indie pop banger that is "Let Your Dogtooth Grow" all the way over to the utterly accesible "Mango" - one of my favourite tracks on the record. This record is BRILLIANT! There's so much to love about this record whether that is the lead singer (Esme) brilliantly euphoric singing or the amazingly talented guitar (Henry) which is astoundingly spaced out and inspiring in so many ways. Or maybe you're more of a fan of drumming in which case the drummer (Sidonie) is going to provide you with a brilliant time especially with tracks like "Blue Suitcase" with that change in drumming towards the end that sounds like a record skipping, to keep up with that takes phenomenal amounts of talent.
What I love most about Silver Dollar Moment though is that it is so open to interpretation, songs like "Blue Suitcase", "Let Your Dogtooth Grow" and "Mango" don't really mean anything specific which has left me wanting to listen more and more as my opinions on songs grow and change depending on my mood or location which is so important when listening to an album. The Orielles make me incredibly excited for the future of music and their incredibly innovative and thought-provoking songs are going to be sitting pretty high on my playlists and the album will undoubtedly be in my top 50 at the end of the year.
