Jaws are a young indie band from Birmingham, with two albums behind them now it almost feels like an insult to refer to them as young, however their music is so wholesome and so complete. Especially if you look at their latest project 'Simplicity' which encapsulates everything you need to hear from the band and more. This gig was rescheduled from the beast from the east saga that happened last month, and it didn't affect the night at all.Dryden Street Social isn't the best venue on the planet, there's a balcony which hinders view greatly if you stand at the back and the stage is slightly off centre which makes it even harder to see. We went and stood on the balcony which had a beam coming down which meant I had to lean on the railing, bent over to be able to see. Not a good place to be 6 feet tall.
Their performance was perfect in all senses of the word. The sound system was set up brilliantly and it was almost like listening to the CD, which it just may as well have been. The young crowd were lively as well - this always helps a band I feel as it gets them into the groove and gets them pumped. Jaws smashed through indie banger after indie banger before they reached my favourite part of the night. I'm getting a little sick of planned encores, they're so forced now and sometimes the crowd isn't even that into it because they know they're coming back. Jaws didn't do that, they went through their set and that was that. so I respected that massively.
All in all, if you're a fan of indie pop and love bands such as Superfood or The Magic Gang then Jaws are right up your street and you should check them out on an upcoming gig.
