Blossoms - I Can't Stand It (Track Review)

I was in great fear that Blossoms were going to split up, after seeing their singer (Tom Ogden) and drummer (Joe Donovon) going at it on Twitter I was adamant this was the end for the lads from Stockport. And despite my Girlfriends claims that it was only a PR stunt I was readying myself for the mourning of one of my current favourite bands. And now I’m here with egg on my face because it’s one of the most obvious PR stunts of all time.

Blossoms then kept teasing something for the 2nd of March, which turned out to be a new single, a new album and a mini tour! Bonus! And after excessively listening to “I Can’t Stand It” I can now confirm that Blossoms are back! Bigger, bolder, slicker and better than ever.

The single and the cover to go with it are obviously very inspired by 1980’s pop with musical tinges stretching as far as Wham! On this but still maintaining that undeniable Blossoms sound with it. Tom Ogden’s voice is just as crisp and unmistakable as ever, it’s strange how his voice has it’s obvious limitations when stretched but that’s when he’s actually at his most powerful and we get some beautiful moments on here.

I’m a huge fan of the drum breakdown, despite it being a very obvious rip off of Gaz Coombes’ “Deep Pockets” even though they’ve been released so close together there’s no way either one could have copied the other.

All in all, if the album ‘Cool Like You’ follows in the same footsteps as this single then we may just be in for album of the decade it’s THAT good!
