BOY AZOOGA (Artist of The Week #4)

I first saw heard Boy Azooga when they supported Estrons on their most recent UK tour, little did I know that they were going to blow my mind and excel to being a big fan overnight. They make some of the funkiest, most eccentric and catchy songs of all time. Tracks such as “Face Behind Her Cigarette” are some of the most innovative, yet true-to-genre songs I’ve ever heard.

The mastermind behind it all is Davey Newington, a young Welsh lad with heaps and heaps of talent. And to top it all off, I had a chat with him after the Estrons show as well and he was a genuinely nice bloke, which makes the band infinitely more accessible to me. “Loner Boogie” is just as good of a single as well, it’s arguably catchier and more mainstream than its predecessor but definitely funkier.

It’s not long now until Boy Azooga’s debut album ‘1, 2, Kung Fu!’ is released, and I am absolutely giddy with excitement, as I said in Artist of the Week #1, there’s nothing better than watching an artist grow and evolve and then release their debut album. It’s a weird sense of pride you get for someone you don’t even know. But Boy Azooga are special and I fully expect them to be selling out big shows once this album drops, I’ll be seeing them at The Cookie in Leicester and I’ll see you down the front!
