This is probably not a shock to people who have read KMMR a few times in the past, but Oasis are my favourite band. Noel's writing and Liam's singing have just always been the perfect combo for me and their first two albums are two of the greatest albums of all time. Taking a mixture of rock and roll and pop with elements of rock they've carved their name right next to big glowing britpop sign, just above The Stone Roses. These songs are placed in order of how I love them and what they mean to me, so this is all purely opinion based. If yours differs to mine then let me know on Twitter or in the comments below!
11. Stand By Me
This one plays out like more of an epic. At umpteen minutes long you'd think that at some point you'd get bored of it. Wrong! I cherish every moment of this song whilst it's on, this is really is one of them songs that can just uplift my mood and it's a testament to Noel's songwriting abilities.
12. Don’t Look Back in Anger
Sometimes I see this referred to as the greatest song of all time, more often the greatest British anthem of all time. And I always disagree because as you can see it doesn't even make my top 10 Oasis songs! It's still an absolute power anthem though, as far as song goes down in history this is right up there!
13. Little By Little
Noel's stadium anthem, a massive tune that seems to fly under the radar most of the time. It's a shame because I think despite coming from a pretty poor album that it's arguably one of the best tunes they ever released. It's often referred to as a ballad and I completely understand that because of the rhythmic outline of the song which culminates in a larger than life chorus. Great song to belt out with your mates.
14. I'm Outta Time
Quite simply one of the most unknowingly beautiful songs that Oasis ever wrote and performed. A true classic in my eyes, this was Oasis at their peak copying-of-the-Beatles though, and due to that I feel it has to drop down. It even has a John Lennon interview plastered onto the end, which makes the whole thing feel as though it is an ode to him, whether it is or not. Classic nonetheless.
15. Slide Away
Incredibly underrated Oasis tune, it's also one of few tracks I actively watch live versions of online.And yet despite that absolute magnificence it never makes anyones favourite Oasis songs list. Depending on what mood you catch me in, this could potentially make the top 5.
16. Married With Children
Probably the most underrated tune on Definitely Maybe, it’s more of a joke song, with it’s funny bridge. But it’s clever in the way that it tells this story of a boring life from 5 lads perspective who have never had a boring life. Great song writing that especially foreshadowed Noel’s future solo career.
17. Songbird
The first Oasis song to be released that was all written by Liam. Just him and an acoustic guitar. And in many ways it’s the perfect song, it’s catchy and succinct and it proves that Noel isn’t the only one who could write. This song just embodies happiness for me, if I’m having a bad day then this is the sort of thing I will put on.
18. Some Might Say
You know what Some Might Say? That this is one of the greatest tunes of all time! And it really is, it beholds all of the Gallagher swagger and it’s just flat out rock and roll! However, it stays well past its welcome which has left it all the way down here on the list. Still, what a banger though.
19. Cast No Shadow
Beautiful song this, always gives me goosebumps when I put it on and I’m not quite sure why. It’s just so wonderfully melodic and enticing that once I’ve put it on I can’t get enough of it and then I just want it more and more. The song’s like a drug.
20. Morning Glory
The title of track of one of the biggest albums of all time, this songs always been a bit hit and miss with me, but as I’m writing this it’s a hit. I’m not evens sure what this songs about, it surely can’t be regarding the crude title of the song? Or maybe it is. You never know with the Gallagher brothers. Nonetheless, when you’re in the mood for this song, it’s an absolute belter of a track.
21. Rock 'N' Roll Star
“ToniiiiIIIIIIIIght I’m a Rock n Roll staaaaaaaRRRR” Glorious. One of the most iconic choruses of all time, for a song that really isn’t that famous in the grand scheme of Oasis. I never really understood this song until I was old enough to start going out and having a laugh, and I realised this is just a lad song, the sort of thing you bang on when you’ve all had too many and belt your lungs out to it. Amazing guitars in this as well.
22. Rockin Chair (Roll With It B-Side)
Once again, a song that I hadn’t really fallen in love with until I saw Liam live, his majestic performance of Oasis osngs were nothing short of glorious, and he hit every single note in Rockin’ Chair. In the words of the man himself, “It was biblical”.
23. D'yer Wanna Be A Spaceman (Shakermaker B-Side)
First hearing this with the big deluxe Definitely Maybe boxset was majestic, yes it’s a bit folk-y and joke-y but there’s nothing wrong with that, I’m a big fan of Noel’s singing on this. Very soft and melodic, it runs through the song perfectly and it’s just a fun listen in general.
24. It's Better People (Roll With It B-Side)
The first time I heard this song was when I purchased the Roll With It 7” and put the B-Side on and this absolute banger was it. It’s a stark contrast to the soundscape of Definitely Maybe so I can see how it didn’t make the cut, not to mention I was shocked to hear Noel singing on such an early single! I thought it was later that he started laying down vocals.
25. Wonderwall
Nabbing a place on this list purely because of the impact and effect this song has had on more than one generation of people. I’m not ashamed to say that Wonderwall made me a fan of Oasis, it was the first song of theirs I ever heard. And whilst it isn’t really one of my favourite songs, I will NEVER forget seeing Liam perform this back in December 2017.
